FeedbackFruits: Discussion on Work

The FeedbackFruits Discussion on Work tool is a robust discussion and feedback activity type in the FeedbackFruits tool suite available for academic course sites in Canvas @ Yale. The Discussion on Work tool allows instructors to create a discussion activity where students can upload their work for their peers to view, comment, and discuss openly. The tool also supports additional settings and functionality to help curate student discussion equitably across the entire group of student submissions.

Why Use FbF: Discussion on Work

  • Features discussions focused specifically on student work through submitted artifacts rather than student responses to a prompt
  • Ensures discussion and feedback on work is distributed across the class and not focused on a small handful of student pieces
  • Organizes discussion threads easily by student

Use Cases for FbF: Discussion on Work

A non-exhaustive list outlining what instructors can use the FeedbackFruits Discussion on Work tool to facilitate include:

  • Hosting an online showcase at the end of a summative assessment that allows students to share their work to peers and host asynchronous discussion
  • Students breaking up into groups and providing unstructured feedback to one other on their group member’s submissions
  • Students annotating each other’s work with comments and feedback that the rest of the class can read and respond to as well
  • Facilitate a digital gallery walk outside of normal class time.
