Weekly and Fellowship Writing Partners

Work consistently with the same Writing Partner.

Weekly Writing Partners

Weekly Writing Partners (WWPs) work regularly with the same students throughout the term. Once paired, a student may meet with their WWP once or twice a week. We recommend WWPs for students who are taking a writing intensive course, are new to collegiate writing, or are working on a long-term project such as a senior thesis. Meeting consistently with the same tutor allows a Writing Partner the chance to become familiar with a student’s writing style, challenges, and goals, leading to greater growth for the writer over the course of a semester.

If you seek to work consistently on your writing with the same Writing Partner, request a Weekly Writing Partner, and email Graduate Assistant Director eden.rea-hedrick@yale.edu with any questions.

“I found my sessions with [my Writing Partner] so incredibly helpful this semester. She kept me accountable for my writing goals, helped me articulate what I was thinking as I approached my various assignments, and gave me feedback on my drafts that was both constructive and validating.”

Fellowship Writing Partners (FWPs)

FWPs are just like WWPs, but they work specifically with students working on an application for a fellowship. FWPs can help with application materials ranging from fellowships hosted by residential colleges to programs like the Fulbright and Rhodes Scholarships. Please note that FWPs are not familiar with the details and requirements of all fellowships. Instead, they are focused on giving writers feedback that will improve the persuasiveness of application materials. For questions about specific fellowships or help finding fellowship opportunities, please visit the Fellowship and Funding Office. Fellowship Writing Partners are available for undergradautes only. If you’re a graduate student looking for support, please visit the Graduate Writing Lab, which also offers Fellowship Writing resources applicants at any education level might find helpful.

To get started, Request a Fellowship Writing Partner, and email Graduate Assistant Director yaprak.damlayildirim@yale.edu with any questions.

“[My Writing Partner] always structured our sessions around different features of my writing, such as organization, style, and loyalty to the application prompts. He explicitly walked through strategies for brainstorming alternative phrasing. He also generously offered feedback on my writing with tangible action items and explicit asks.”
