Graduate Student Teaching Communities

Our graduate student teaching communities are multi-session events that allow cohorts of participants to have sustained teaching discussions over four or more meetings.

Fundamentals of Teaching

Fundamentals of Teaching workshops are four-part series for graduate and professional students that introduce the theory and practice of teaching in an interactive setting. The series are adapted topically to promote deep and often discipline-specific conversations. Attending at least three out of four sessions of a Fundamentals of Teaching workshop is required for completion of the Graduate Student and Professional Student Certificate of College Teaching Preparation (CCTP). They are best completed as a first step towards the Graduate and Professional Student CCTP. Those pursuing the Postdoctoral Fellow CCTP should instead engage with Postdoctoral Scholars Teaching Communities.

Teaching Courses and Seminars

Our teaching courses and seminars are meant to be a foundational introduction to teaching topics that prepare participants for their future teaching careers. Open to graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, these offerings can count toward the CCTP in lieu of a Fundamentals of Teaching workshop series.. We regularly offer:

  • Equitable Teaching in the Social Sciences and Humanities
  • Scientific Teaching Fellows Course (BBS 879 or PHYS 530)

Graduate and Postdoctoral Scholars Learning Communities

Learning communities count toward the requirements for the CCTP and provide a structured space for instructors to share their experiences, reflect on their practice, and refine their ideas through engagement with pedagogical scholarship and their colleagues.
