Yale instructors are increasingly using brief course introduction videos as a medium to introduce students to their course content, learning goals and teaching approaches. Many students find these videos useful while searching for courses during open enrollment. You may consider including a link to such a video on your syllabus and/or on your Canvas course site.
The Poorvu Center created the following video tutorial in response to a recommendation made by the Yale Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The tutorial outlines what a course introduction video might include. Faculty can select from a number of tools and software programs to record their messages. We have developed instructions for recording a Course Introduction Video using Panopto, Zoom, or a phone. The Poorvu Center arranges for all course introduction videos that are uploaded to Canvas to be professionally captioned, to make course selection as accessible as possible for all students.
Please follow this step-by-step guide on recording and posting your video.
