Join Poorvu’s Faculty Fellow Professor Roderick Ferguson and local historians, Joy Burns and Samantha White, for an engaging presentation exploring artifacts related to New Haven and Yale University. This collaborative event examines the complex, racialized relationship between the university and the surrounding community. Participants will engage in object-based learning and gain some insights on how instructors can use object-based teaching to help students gain a critical understanding of how powerful institutions and influential people can impact disenfranchised communities. Through this pedagogical approach, learners will explore how historical artifacts can foster discussions that can lead to improved outcomes for community members.
