Workshops

Writing workshops for Divinity Students are designed to help you develop the writing skills you need in YDS.  They cover a range of genres including exegeses, reflection papers, and academic research papers.  Our workshops are interactive, providing students an opportunity to apply the principles covered and engage with each other.

GWL Workshop

I really appreciated that thoroughness of the presentations, as all the presentations expanded on the knowledge I already knew or gave me new knowledge about scholarly writing I didn’t know before.

As I approach my graduation on May 22nd, I am filled with a deep sense of gratitude for the collective effort and support I have received from both past and present members of the GWL. Each one of you has played a vital role in shaping my writing skills and academic growth, and I want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank you for your invaluable assistance.

Write-Ins

Write-ins are three-hour blocks of time devoted to productive writing among your peers. You’ll begin by setting goals for your writing session, then draw focus from a community of peers as you work to achieve them. We’ll supply a distraction-free space and a mid-session snack break so you can direct your energy toward getting work done.

I felt encouraged to focus on the task I had to do and accountable to not engage in distracting behaviors (like checking my phone).

Peer-Review Groups

These small groups of YDS students working on their theses meet for one hour each week. They begin in October and continue into the spring semester. Participants share progress on their weekly goals at the start of each meeting. Then, one writer presents a draft for feedback from the group. Together participants strive to create a community of writers supporting each other toward successful and timely completion of their theses.
